In 1895 Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bates were the proud parents of a baby girl named Mamie. Mamie and her 3 brothers were born and raised on a ranch in Ector County in Texas. Mamie has many fond memories of her life growing up on their ranch near Crane. She says her only regret was that she had no sisters.

Mamie completed high school and later married Allen Hilbun. They made their home in Ft. Sumner, NM during WWII where Allen worked on a ranch. Later, they moved to Odessa, TX. Where Allen continued to ranch and Mamie worked at a bank. After a stint at the bank, she decided to become a full-time housewife. Mamie says they had a nice life and had lots of fun times together.

In her leisure time, Mamie loved to play bridge. She was active in the Women's Organization in the First Christian Church and later on in the Methodist Church for more than 40 years. Today Mamie is an avid reader and reads the newspaper daily.
