Born August 4, 1900 in Rockford, Ohio, Bernice Sickles is one strong willed woman. She married Tom Prichard in Van Wert, Ohio May 9, 1919 and was the mother of 4 hard working, rambunctious sons. Moving to Texas at the outset of the Great Depression, they survived by finding odd jobs and canning all the produce from their garden. Tom was able to work full time for Atlantic Oil Company (now ARCO) and moved to Wink and Denver City.

Until a couple of years ago, Bernice enjoyed playing the piano every day. She had been the pianist for several Baptist churches and the Rebekah Lodge. She said she read notes but when her eyesight failed, she could still play by memory.

Tom and Bernice were Gold Star Parents having lost Tommy at Corregidor and Ralph was a P.O.W. of the Japanese for four years and died in 1958. Both Tom and the oldest son, Charles have preceded her in death. Jack, her youngest, is her only surviving son. She has 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.
